Christmas Preparations

This is going to be a small Christmas for us this year, especially with Jackson working at UPS over the holidays. With this in mind, our decorations are less elaborate this year than they have been in years past.

I spent more time on the exterior than I typically do. I filled the wall baskets with cedar greenery and added pinecones to the front of the baskets to add a little cheer to the herb garden. I used a wreath I brought after the holidays last year and embellished it with pine cones, hazel nuts, and red berries. I topped it off with a large red, grey and black plaid bow. The greenery on the handrails is from a cedar tree in our yard along with pine cones from nearby. I used the same ribbon as the wreath at the corners of the handrails.

I wanted to echo the ribbon used on the front porch in the dining room, and found that I had an adorable hand embroidered table cloth that was the perfect backdrop.

Since only Mike, Chris and I will see the tree, I ordered a small pre-lit tree and the only decorations are a yellow wooden star that I painted, and a couple strings of garland that I bought from Crate and Barrel after Christmas last year. The tree skirt was another after Christmas purchase. That and the pretty packages makes an appropriately sized statement in the living room.

I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that this holiday season brings you time to reflect on your many blessings as you spend time with those you hold most dear (even if it’s over Zoom, or by telephone).

  1. Despite the small gathering at our house, I still brought out the collection, although adjusted for the puppy 😉🥂
