Spring Fever–Raised Beds

Last year we bought several stock tanks to use as raised beds for our vegetables. We made the concrete on the south side of the shed large enough to accommodate them. We added planting mix to the three tanks that currently don’t have anything growing in them.

We have had kale and lettuce growing in the other two. They are finally starting to grow enough that we can use them.

I am starting some cucumber seeds in these pots. I only plant pickling type cucumbers. I usually make a couple batches of dill pickles, and I can use this type for salads as well, as long as I don’t let them get too big (they get bitter). I will keep them on this shelf because it has a nice microclimate with all the concrete, and cement board siding. So glad that we finished this project last winter. It is already coming in handy.
