The Shade Perennial Bed–Update

We had some extremely cold weather over the Easter weekend. Fortunately everything came through okay with only minor damage on a few plants.

Columbine is one of my favorites because it blooms early and has fantastic foliage.
This is the clematis vine that was cut back when they were working on the exterior of the house. It is going to have loads of blooms this year. I should be able to cover the entire support with vines by the end of the season and hide the electric meter and other incoming service boxes.
You can see a small amount of damage on this astilbe plant. It looks like it will still bloom however.
My bleeding hearts are putting on quite a show. Again–an early bloomer with great foliage. The foliage dies back in the heat of the summer. The astilbe in front of it are getting off to a slow start.
Tiarella (foam flower) is a great little woodland flower. It stays low growing except for the flowers.
A chartreuse heuchera. I love these little perennials.

I hope that your spring gardening is going well.

    1. I was a little worried about this bed when it got so cold. There was a little damage to some of the hostas, and the astilbe, but everything else seemed to weather it just fine.
