Pandemic Physical Fitness–Fall Creek Falls

My husband and I celebrated our 27th anniversary this weekend by spending it at Fall Creek Falls State Park in Spencer, TN. It is about 1 1/2 hours from our house. It is one of the most popular state parks in TN and we were pleasantly surprised when we were able to rent a cabin for our anniversary weekend. We stayed in the Landside Cabins–they are 3 BR/1 BA and will accommodate six. This was the view from our balcony:

You can’t see it from this view, but there is a hiking trail that goes around most of the lake. There are stairs from these cabins down to it. We took this trail around the lake over to Fall Creek Falls. Fall Creek Falls is 256′ tall and is one of the tallest waterfalls in the eastern part of the US. It is really stunning. Here is what you can see from the overlook (which you can drive to).

From this overlook, you can hike .4 miles down to the base of the falls. The trail is being rehabilitated and it isn’t as much a trail as it is stone steps that take you down about 400 vertical feet over the .4 mile distance. All Trails will tell you that it’s a moderate trail. That is definitely not how I would describe it, but it is gorgeous:

There are other state parks in this part of Middle Tennessee. If you haven’t been to Fall Creek Falls, we highly recommend it. Lots of paved trails; golf course; tennis courts; pool; lake; loads of campsites for tents and RVs (with water and electric hook-up); store; restaurant (opening in January); and they are building a brand new lodge on the edge of the lake.

This is labelled physical fitness because we logged over 20,000 steps while we were there.

Happy Spring!!
