Herb Garden–a little out of control

My herb garden is in a tiny bed at the south west corner of our garage. This must be the perfect climate for herbs because they grow like CRAZY. I have to prune my rosemary 3 or 4 times a year just to keep it under control. Right now, the oregano is the problem….

My parsley from last season is flowering. My replacement plants are still tiny. Who knew that herbs grew so slowly.

I need some more thyme, so I started some from seed this spring. Wow, is it a slow grower or what? I planted this thyme at the same time I planted these tomatoes. What a difference.

Thyme is the middle column of plants….
These are growing so well and some even have blooms on them.

My other problem with the herbs right now is the squirrels keep digging in the pots where I have planted basil. I have taken the pieces of cattle panel that we cut off when we were building the plant supports and stuck them in the pots as a deterrent. No rogue squirrel attacks since I did this.

I planted the seeds in the pot on the right two weeks after the plant on the left. I am growing more basil this year for pizza sauce. I also have planted 13 roma tomato plants….

I love this view of the house. It looks European to me…

If you haven’t grown herbs, I highly recommend them, but they do need heat (but not too much) and plenty of air flow. Fresh basil makes a huge difference in your pasta and pizza sauce.
