Things Are BLOOMING!!

May is one of my favorite months in the garden because things start blooming. The flowers are a little late this year because it has been a cool spring compared to what we typically see…damn jet stream.

The garden on the north side of the house is looking so good. Everything is really green and lush and some flowers are finished blooming–foam flower, bleeding heart, columbine, and lenten rose. BUT, some new flowers have picked up the baton and are running with it.

I bought this heuchera for its foliage, but the deep red flowers are a nice contrast against the chartreuse leaves.
I have several varieties of astilbe. This is one that I moved from the farm, and I don’t remember its name. This is sort of a medium sized white astilbe. I love to use the flowers in arrangements.
I have two of these clematis vines. The flowers are STUNNING!
This is a dark red astilbe that is just getting ready to bloom.
This is the Sum and Substance hosta that was just barely opening up when I did the post about hostas. You can see how huge the leaves are. I love all the various types of foliage together in this picture.
My oak leaf hydrangeas are getting ready to bloom.
This is another photo that shows all the textures of the leaves. I love shade gardening.
The crape myrtle has finally gotten its leaves. I love the sculptural nature of the trunks.
This corner of the garden has really grown up. It was a little thin in the last round of photos.
This pot hides the back side of the antique crib frame on which the clematis is growing. I planted impatiens in it last year, and you can see the baby impatiens are coming up. This is an easy and free way to get impatiens year after year.

Overall the garden on the north side has filled in nicely and it looks great from the street.

I hope that your spring gardening is going well!
