The bird bath garden–maybe not the best idea…..

So earlier this year, I posted about building a pad for my birdbaths. I also planted strawberries and fig trees that I plan to espalier on my south facing brick wall of the garage.

First of all, one of the fig trees leafed out beautifully and the other didn’t. The garden center had the same problem with the remaining stock. In fact, I got the last one that was leafing out. I recently pulled the dead one out and replaced it. It is well behind the other.

It may take a few weeks, but I am confident that this little fig tree will catch up with the one that got a head start.

The bird baths look great, BUT maybe attracting birds to the area where we planted strawberries wasn’t the best ideas. Birds 300 Boettners 0.

The strawberries make a pretty ground cover….even if the birds and bunnies get all the berries.

It’s unfortunate because this is a great spot for strawberries, but I LOVE watching the birds from my kitchen window. We may just have to chalk it up to cheap bird food. The blue birds especially love it, and they are my favorites.
