Raspberries are a little later than normal this year (usually ripe around mid-May or so), but they are ripe now. I went to Morris Vineyard to pick them this morning and was greeted by this view.

This is truly one of the prettiest places in Bradley County. The views are fantastic.
I got myself a big pail and headed out to the field. (Be sure to apply sunscreen and bug spray–lots of sun and bugs. You also need to watch out for fire ant hills, and poison ivy.)

If you’ve never picked raspberries (or blackberries for that matter), they should come off the bush easily without much effort. If they don’t come off easily, they need a few more days.
Morris Vineyard has blackberries and blueberries that will be in a little later this summer. The blackberries were still blooming, so they may be a little later than normal. Blueberries usually come in around the beginning of July.
I picked for about an hour and filled my bucket.

It was nearly nine pounds of fruit. I am getting ready to make them into jam. Raspberry is my favorite!
