A Garden Update

Well, summer is upon us and things are happening in the gardens…some is going well, some not so much.

My fig trees are both leafed out now, but it is clear that one is WAY behind the other. On a happier note, the birds have been less interested in the strawberries lately and my husband has managed to pick about a gallon of them. Some went in the freezer, and some went in his belly.

This Crape Myrtle, “Natchez”, is absolutely gorgeous this year and it is buzzing with all the bees that are visiting its flowers.

Just look at these hosta flowers–BEAUTIFUL. I think I am going to pick some tomorrow for a bouquet.

The rest of the perennial bed on the north side of the house is looking pretty great too, and there have been almost no weeds to pull (except for all the baby crape myrtles).

Our idea for tomato supports is working, but I think we need to lower them to catch the plants a little earlier. This is just four plants and they have completely filled this stock tank. So many tomatoes are in there.

These tomatoes are still struggling–this is the same variety planted at the same time as the ones in the photo above. It must be the difference in the soil. I am going to dig this out and replace it with the planting mix that I used in the others stock tanks.

The cutting garden is bursting with blooms and the grow through heads from Kinsman are keeping my dahlias upright.

How is your garden doing?
