Upcycling some thrift store vases

Our youngest just moved into an apartment and he is really into plants. I brought him several when I helped him get his apartment together, but he still wants a few more. Ceramic pots are really expensive, and aren’t always waterproof, but glass vases are.

I bought two really heavy glass vases from the thrift store for $1/each. I washed them when I got home and waited for the rain to stop here. We had a nice sunny dry day, so I put on my latex gloves and wiped the outsides of the vases with rubbing alcohol.

Then I gathered my spray paints. (I had to buy the copper one, but I had the other two.)

Note: Do NOT handle the vases without your gloves on. You do not want any of the oil from your skin to get on the vases as it will impair the paint’s adhering to the vases.

I started with the brown satin spray paint.

I purposefully left it kind of mottled.

Then I put a coat of the shiny copper.

Again, it isn’t a perfectly even coat.

Then I used the Sea Foam Sea Glass paint to make it look like the copper was beginning to oxidize.

Great looking pots for almost no money. Gotta love that!
