My husband cut down some trees at a friends house earlier this year and as the logs dried, the bark peeled off of them. Some of it rolled up in a cylinder which gave me the idea to use them to wrap vases to make a rustic container for arrangements.

I decided to use this vase because it looked like it would be the right size and it’s a straight cylinder with no change in diameter.

I ordered extra large hose clamps to help form the bark to the shape and size of the vase–these are bigger than I needed, but I want to try this same technique with coffee cans, so I will need them then.

After I cut the bark to the appropriate length, I brought a large pot of water to boiling and then took it off the heat and put the bark in it. Once it was more pliable, I took it out.

Then I put it around the vase and secured it with hose clamps.

Once the bark was dry again (about 3 days later), I removed the hose clamps and filled it with an arrangement of greenery as a gift.

Happy Holidays!

That was truly clever.and lovely
