Last fall, we enlarged the vegetable garden on the south side of the house. This year, we added planting mix to it and topped it with mulch. Now, it’s time to get growing!
I planted San Marzano tomato seeds and Cherokee Purple tomato seeds. I had a really good germination rate and ended up with 18 San Marzano plants and 17 Cherokee Purple. I put up some supports (t posts and cattle panels) for them to grow up. My husband laughed at how crooked they are, but I reminded him that he didn’t have to do it, and that the tomato plants don’t care.

It looks really shady, but the garden gets morning sun, and then gets sun all afternoon, and it gets sunnier as the season progresses as the sun’s angle changes. I have basil plants growing in the trash cans. I use a LOT of basil when it comes time to make sauce, so I have these two and a large pot in the herb garden.

I also started red bell pepper seeds (California Wonder) and poblano (ancho) pepper seeds. I planted them in tubs behind the shed.

I hope that your spring gardening is coming along well.
