Wardrobe Refresh–Update

First, I want to say: Wow, there is so much cutting to make a quilt and lots of steps. None of them is particularly difficult (so far), but wow, lots and lots of time.

My mom and I worked on sewing the strips together into panels. We did 15 because that is enough finished material to make a picnic blanket (48″ x 60″) which is what I have decided on.

I laid the panels out so that I could get an idea of what the finished quilt will look like. I also adjusted the color some to eliminate the shadow.

The next step was to iron all the panels flat and then start cutting them perpendicular to the direction of the strips to create strips of squares.

You have to square off the edge before you start cutting blocks. I can’t imagine doing all this cutting with scissors.

Once I cut all the strips of squares, then I laid them out so that I could make five groups of 24 pieces each.

And here they are ready for the next step.

I’ve decided to get one blanket finished all the way through before doing these last two steps on the rest of the fabric that I have cut.

More to come!
