I saw this on Instagram and tried it this year for my tomatoes, peppers, zinnias, and stock. You start with an empty gallon jug and cut it almost in half. Poke some holes in the bottom for drainage.

Add potting soil and get it thoroughly moistened. Sprinkle the seeds over the soil and sprinkle with a little additional soil. Put the top back on and wait for the seeds to sprout.

Once they get their first set of real leaves, transplant them into individual pots. Here, I have started another batch of tomatoes (Brandywine) to put in the garden when the first batch of tomatoes gives out.
I have had much more success starting plants from seed using this technique, than I ever had with putting seeds directly into individual pots.
In August, I will start my kale and lettuce this way.
If you have had trouble growing things from seed, I highly recommend this method.

Good idea
