The vegetable garden

As you might remember, we made the vegetable garden on the south side of the house bigger last year so that I could grow more tomatoes. I grew a ton of roma tomatoes, but still didn’t get enough at one time to do all my canning. So this year, I am growing primarily Cherokee Purple tomatoes and a few squash back here, and I am going to go to the Mennonite market to get my tomatoes for sauce and to can.

I fertilized these little squash (Slik Pik) after I took this photo.

My basil is also doing great:

I grow my basil from seed every year–so much less expensive which is important when you use as much basil as I do!

And at the very end, I have my cucumbers. I had to put in some T-posts for one of the panels that kept falling over last year. I won’t have that problem this year.

These are all hot house/English cucumbers. I don’t need to make pickles this year. I fertilized these too.

It’s going to be weeks before we start harvesting anything from back here, but it’s looking good so far.
