Lunaria Wreath–Use What You Have Decor

If you have been following along, you saw my post about the lunaria volunteers that I have growing at the edge of our yard and around the compost pile. We really have a LOT of it, so I decided to make a wreath out of them which will mimic the eucalyptus wreaths you see everywhere.

First step was to pick a bunch of lunaria. I left the stems really long.

I stripped all the leaves off the stems because they get really brittle and make a mess when they are dry.

Then I laid the stems in a line so that the length of it was about the same fullness.

I used floral wire and wired the stems together in about 10 or 12 places. Then I made a circle out of it.

I wired the 2 ends together. Then I trimmed all the extra long stems and wired it some more to make sure that it’s round.

Once I got everything trimmed and wired together securely, I laid it flat in the basement to dry.

The seed pods will keep their green color for a while, but eventually, they turn brown. I am going to spray this with spray lacquer (matte) and use it this fall.

What do you think? Have you ever made a wreath from scratch from items in your yard/forest/garden? This is my first try with lunaria. I’ve made one out of hydrangeas before.
