I found some big glass canisters at the thrift store and I’ve been dying to try making a terrarium. Of course I googled how to do it. I followed their advice and here are the steps:
Start with a Large Glass Container.

Add gravel to the bottom of the container to keep the plant roots from sitting in water.

Add a couple/few inches of potting soil.

Look up what types of plants thrive in a terrarium–I found an article by Country Living to guide my choices. I chose an African violet, a fern, and a couple air plants. I also bought a Prayer Plant, but it wouldn’t fit.

I removed the fern from its pot and split the dirt at the bottom and opened it up so that the roots would be horizontal rather than vertical and I put it in the jar. Then I did the same thing with the violet. I added a little more soil to be sure that the roots were covered. Then I cut some sheet moss to cover the soil. Lastly, I tucked the two air plants in. Here’s the finished terrarium:

This is an EASY project and not terribly expensive for something that will be around for a long (hopefully) time. I’ll let you know how it goes.
