More Thrifted Christmas

We’re having a little party on the 23rd and so I have picked up some additional decor from thrift stores to make the house extra festive.

First up is the arrangement that I am going to use for the buffet. I bought the container at a consignment store. Some of the floral stems came from that same consignment store, and the rest came from thrift stores. I bought 4 branches at retail to fill it out.

This is an impressive arrangement–perfect statement for a party.

As I mentioned in my last Thrifted Christmas post, I have bought a bunch of ornaments from thrift stores and consignment stores. Here are some of them:

In the last post, I was going to do a bow for the greenery in the basement, but by the time I went back to the store, they were completely sold out of the plaid ribbon. Fortunately, I went to the thrift store and found a super cute (and perfect for this spot) card holder that mimics the shape of the fans (and only 60 cents).

It kind of disappears without the cards. We have a friend who cross stitches us a card every year. This is just a sample of what we have received.

People will be using our bathroom during the party, so I hung up a not really Christmas wreath, but it’s pretty, and perfect for the window. (And only $1.)

I bought the four of us Woof N Poof stockings when the boys were little and now that they have partners, I had to find more. Woof N Poof closed, so I found these on eBay for them.

I bought these really nice holiday peppermint stripe candles as part of a holiday lot on an auction site. There are a pair of them.

I bought a decorative jar for my chocolate coins–we always have these at the holidays.

I found this cute little piece of holly garland at the thrift store for 50 cents. We have kind of a holly theme going for the party–the napkins, cocktail napkins, and centerpiece are all holly, so I hung this up in the laundry room which will serve as the bar for the event.

I have purchased a few more items for the party from the thrift store:

A couple of smallish glass pitchers for the batched cocktails I am making

Cocktail glasses

A mahogany cutting board that I need to sand down and oil

Double old fashioned and high ball glasses

If you are having a party, glassware from the thrift store is nearly a sure bet. My favorite one sells glasses for 35 cents per stem and they have all kinds. I like them because if you get different kinds, people have an easier time keeping track of which glass belongs to them. Glass plates are also easy to find at the thrift store–perfect for appetizers/desserts. And if you decide you don’t want to keep them, you can always re-donate them.

I am planning to do a post on the party.
