Our shed has been a workhorse for 10 years now and the stained siding had really started to oxidize, so I went to Sherwin Williams and had them color match a solid stain to the color of the vinyl shingle siding.

To get started, I had to take down the irrigation that is attached to the shed.

I also had to take the shelf on the back of the potting shed down.

Then I scrubbed it all with a very stiff scrub brush. Then I started staining.

This part was a really easy that only took a few hours., but there was more to do. Here’s where I left it at the end of Day one.

The next day, I needed to take the brackets off of the shelf and clean and stain it and put it back up. To put it back up, I installed the brackets first, and then I put the shelf on top and lined up the screw holes. I was surprised how smoothly and quickly this part went.

Over the weekend, my husband unhooked the downspouts, and did the high work. We took the door down and stained in the basement, because that was WAY easier than staining it in place. I decided to stain the door all white because the trim that my husband used for the door is a little dinky and I didn’t like how that looked.
Here is the east side after we finished staining:

The downspouts were only screwed into the Hardie board which isn’t structural, so there was a break in the action while my husband went to get some grommets to make it more secure. When he returned, we reinstalled the downspouts and the door to the attic. My poor husband was tired, but there was rain in the forecast, so he powered through and was rewarded with a 2 hour nap.

Newly stained and mulched, it really looks great.
