I left my role as CEO back in April after working out the world’s longest notice–4 months. Then COVID has had all of us locked down. So I am limiting how much I go out for any reason, and I am really trying not to buy new things–especially for something like a holiday centerpiece. Fortunately, or maybe not so fortunately (especially if you ask my husband), I have a lot of stuff here at the house to work with.
I started this arrangement with a low rustic metal dish and candle that I used to have in the den at our old house. I used the candle as a template to cut the floral foam to serve as a base for the leaves and berries. Using masking tape, I taped the foam together, and taped it in the dish, and then I taped the candle to the foam so it would all be secure.
I had some silk leaves that I had intended to use several Thanksgivings ago and never did. I had 6 brown, and 12 red.

As you can see, these leaves are a vivid scarlet and didn’t go with any of my table linens. So I painted them with gold metallic spray paint. And now they look like this…..

I used more on 6 than the other 6 so there would be some variation in the color. I used the brown leaves as the lowest layer, and then the maple leaves. I used the gold leaves for right around the candle–I bent the stem at a 90 degree angle and pushed them in so that the leaves were touching the candle, and sort of scrunched them so that you can’t see the tape, the foam, or the bottom of the dish. Then I found some cranberry colored berry picks and separated them until I had single branches and put those evenly around the arrangement.
I will do another post of my finished Thanksgiving table. Even though it’s just our little family, I still want it to be pretty.

I always look forward to your holiday decorations. You’re one of the most creative people I know.
