Vegetable Garden Progress

I finally got my tomatoes and peppers planted this past week, and the cucumbers are tall enough to start training them to grow up the trellis we built for them.

I use velcro tape to train vines on trellises. I do the same thing with my clematis vines. You can just move the tape as the plants grow up the trellis.
Roma tomatoes. I picked all but the top leaves off the plants and planted them up to their “necks”.
Until last weekend, I had arugula planted here. These are the California Wonder pepper plants that I started from seed. Peppers are slow growers too. I need to start some Poblano and Jalapeno seeds. The cucumbers are coming along, but haven’t grown quite as fast as the ones in the raised bed.
I planted some of my Cherokee purple tomatoes where my second planting of arugula isn’t growing. Once I put the rest of the arugula up, I will plant the rest of my tomatoes. The romaine and red leaf lettuce have been so productive that we have struggled to keep up. I have picked 4 or 5 huge food containers full of salad greens from this little patch. We need to enjoy it while we can because as soon as it gets hot, these plants will bolt, and that will be that.
These are my two Butterstick yellow squash plants. If you look really closely, you can see tiny baby squashes. Butterstick is our favorite straight neck yellow squash by far.

I hope that your vegetable gardens are doing well, in spite of the challenging weather.

    1. Squash are starting to form for real; cucumbers are about to bloom; and tomatoes are blooming. I hope that this super hot weather doesn’t keep the tomatoes from setting fruit. Your beans are growing well along with your pepper plants. Are there any other plants that you want? I can pick them up on my way over.
