My Newest Project–Meet Pippa

We lost our two old lady dogs last year–Charlotte and Delilah. We have ALWAYS had pets throughout our entire marriage. We took a break for about 6 months and didn’t have any serious discussions about a dog until about May of this year. Mike insisted that we get a purebred puppy that we could raise ourselves. Most of our animals through the years have been rescues of one kind or another. This is our first puppy since my very first dog, Eleanor, a bassett hound. We talked about what kind to get and our list of must included: good with other dogs; good with children; likes the water; easy to train; happy to go all day, or hang out on the couch; and a medium size.

Mike’s parents’ neighbor got a Boykin Spaniel last year and Mike met Jake while we were deliberating about what kind of dog to get. I had pretty much dismissed spaniels because they tend to be high strung and not good with other dogs or children. Boykins are completely different–even the mothers with litters are super friendly. We looked around for a breeder and found Hunters Rest in Sewanee–Nancy Boykin (her husband’s great uncle developed the breed.) We were initially told that the waiting list was two years, but we aced the interview and just got Pippa on October 4th.

Now we have to register her and come up with a name. All the names will start with Hunters Rest. Here are some thoughts:

Pippa Dee Doo Da

Pippa Plays Politics

Pippa Makes Perfect

Pippa Plans A Party

  1. Pippa Dee Doo Dah or Pippa Makes Perfect.

(Pippa Passes = great poem, but sounds too morbid title only)

    Pip, Pip, Hooray!

Pipsissewa (where root beer flavor comes from)
