1st Try at Wedding Centerpieces

I am going to do the centerpieces for my niece’s wedding at the beginning of October. I found a bunch of driftwood in the river which looked cool, so I asked her if she wanted to use it for her centerpieces. She agreed, since she wants a Northern California kind of vibe for the reception. (By the way, I posted about how to bleach the driftwood to ensure that you don’t have any critters living in it and to make the color lighter so that it looks more like driftwood that you’d find on a CA beach.)

She also wants to use shells that she and her fiance found near where they live–they are rich reds, russets, and purples. I had to use the shells that I have which are quite light and bleached out–so you’ll have to use your imagination.

I started by going to Trader Joe’s to gather flowers in the right colors and I brought some pieces of driftwood upstairs for inspiration.

I really liked the vertical one, so I started by adding that to the arrangement. I had to use bamboo skewers to keep it standing up because it is tippy.

Next I added a piece that is from the roots of something. I also secured it with bamboo skewers.

I used Gerbera daisies, alstroemeria, hypericum berries (St. John’s wort), little spray roses, and silver dollar eucalyptus.

My niece wants to use natural tones for the table linens, so I used a natural color linen cloth, little wooden discs, and candle holders that I made by spraying glasses with copper paint. (My niece already decided that we are going to use the candle holders and wooden discs for the wedding.)

Let’s see if this is close to what she has in mind…. Even if I need to try again, it was fun to do, and our friends who are coming for dinner this weekend will get to enjoy it.
