My husband and I were talking about plans for the holiday weekend and we decided that we wanted to have homemade lemonade to serve. Here’s the recipe:
2 cups water
2 cups granulated sugar
3 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (you could substitute lime juice if you prefer limeade)
14 cups ice cold water
2 cups of strawberry juice (optional)
Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and stir sugar and stir until dissolved. Pour into a two gallon container (I had to use a stock pot). Put ice into a large measuring cup and add water until you have measured out 14 cups of ice cold water. Put half of the mixture into a pitcher, or into jars.
Strawberry Lemonade:
Put about 1 1/2 quarts of hulled strawberries through the fine mesh disk of a food mill and then through a fine mesh sieve to remove all the pulp. This should yield about 2 cups of strawberry juice. Add this to the remaining half of the lemonade and pour into a pitcher or jars.

This recipe makes a little less than 1 1/2 gallons or so. We love using these jars for homemade drinks–generally we just drink right out of the jar, but you can also pour it into glasses for smaller servings. (The jars are from pasta sauce and I bought the lids–they are regular ball jar plastic lids.)

They sound refreshing.
