I finally talked my husband into planting blueberry bushes and rhubarb on the east and west sides of our garden shed. I love the vineyard that has blueberries, but it’s a pretty long drive from here, so having our own blueberries has been a goal of mine.
I started by spraying the grass around the shed where the beds were going to be. I started about 2 months ago because we have a LOT of bermuda grass in our yard and it is notoriously difficult to kill. Then, we spread planting mix on both of the beds to give the new plants something good to grow in–our soil is really rocky and generally not great.
Finally, this past weekend, our blueberry bushes came in to the garden center. I bought a total of 4 and there are two different varieties. Generally, with blueberries, you need two varieties for pollination. My husband dug the holes, and I planted the bushes. Then he shoveled mulch into the beds and I raked and spread it out to cover the outlines of the beds.
Here’s the final result.

Yummy
