I’m going to do a few posts about some of the redecorating that is going on around here–particularly in the main suite, and in my youngest son’s room–these spaces haven’t changed much in the past 9 years and I am really tired of everything.
So, if you’ve been following along for a while, you know that we bought this house and had planned to use it as a short term rental, but then we had a couple of not great experiences with renters–relatively mild compared to some of the horror stories I’ve seen–and we decided to move out here permanently and sell our “farm”. So, we bought all new stuff for this house and decorated with “vacation house” vibes in mind. Some of those decisions have held up okay, but others, not so much.
This is what the bedroom looked like when we walked through the house before we bought it.

Somehow, I don’t have photos of what it looked like before I started working on it, but here’s a photo that shows the color it was.

It never was quite the right color, but after painting the entire interior of this house, we just couldn’t face repainting it 9 years ago. I like blue okay, but the room was awfully blue and only blues. I wanted to bring in additional colors, so I went shopping for fabrics that would coordinate with the chair (which I didn’t want to reupholster), the coverlet, and the rug. I went to Short Sheet Fabrics in Knoxville and found this one:

It’s just what I was looking for–brought in some greens, yellows, and browns. I went back and found a coordinating window pane plaid for curtains, and a beautiful embroidered fabric for a decorative pillow on the bed.
Once I had all my fabrics chosen, I went out to find a paint color. I looked and looked and finally decided on Behr Jungle Camouflage. I had 2 gallons of eggshell mixed for the master suite, and then it was time to get everything out of the room and start cleaning and taping.
Here’s how it looks with nothing back in the room yet and you can see that the paint is still wet:

When I first started painting, it looked VERY brown. It wasn’t until I got the first coat on everything that it looked green. (By the way, I’ve NEVER opened a can of green paint and liked it, but have always been happy with it once it was up and dry.)
I pulled all the tape and we moved everything back into our room–our house was a disaster for the day and a half that I was working on this.
I picked up my shams and decorative pillows and put them on the bed.

I am picking up artwork for over the bed next week. I also need a new quilt/coverlet for the foot of the bed. I hope to find that while I’m in ATL next week.
I put the decorative pillow in the chair.

I’m not sure I like these two together. I think that I am going to have my seamstress make a pillow out of the curtain fabric–the grayish background of the chair and the yellow-ish background of the pillow are fighting.
The antique cherry chests we have in our room look gorgeous against this green color.

We’re still waiting on curtains for the window.

I’m planning to keep the roman shade (which is blackout lined) with the curtains which are also blackout lined, so if we need a nap, we’ll be able to make it really good and dark. Our window faces east, and sometimes in the summer, that sunshine starts peeking in way too early.
After doing this, it makes me realize how much I miss the nice millwork we had at our old house. My husband agrees, and putting up crown molding, replacing the door and window trim and baseboards just got added to the list of his projects. I also want to put the beadboard wallpaper on the ceiling in here like we have done in the public spaces in the house.
I will post more when the curtains, artwork, and new pillow for the chair are in.
On to the bathroom!

looks awesome!

Thanks. It’s not hard, but it’s a lot of up and down from the floor to the ladder. I’m pretty happy with how it’s looking.
