Reaping what we sowed….

And happy about it!

Last fall, I posted about planting blueberry bushes and rhubarb plants on the east and west sides of our garden shed. We have had a relatively mild and really rainy spring, so they have really done well.

These rhubarb plants still need some time to produce harvest sized stalks.

The blueberry bushes are really loaded for such young plants. I’m excited to have some in my own yard.

Here’s the rhubarb I picked to make strawberry rhubarb jam. You pick the stalks (excluding the leaves (which are poisonous by the way)) when they are 12″ long, evenly striped with green and red:

I should be able to pick more in a few weeks. This is probably about 4 lbs. If you know me, you know that I LOVE strawberry rhubarb recipes. So good.

I will post about the jam project when I do that.
