I pulled up our tomatoes around the middle of August after picking TONS of green ones that were still on the vines to ripen on the counter. I probably picked 40 or 50 lbs and some have gone bad, but most of them are ripening just fine. I did that to get ready for fall planting.
I used this little tub as my “nursery” for my fall crops–bok choi, kale, and lettuce.

I also planted lots of carrot seeds–you start those around early to mid-August.

I transplanted the baby lettuce plants that came up to this tank.

I still need to pick these poblanos.

I have already transplanted a BUNCH of the bok choi to the garden on the south side of the house.

I had some arugula seeds left which I direct sowed in the remaining stock tank that was empty.
Do you plant a fall garden?

Now I just need it to stop raining long enough that I can transplant more seedlings!
