Yet another purchase from the farmers market. I bought two baskets of squash from the Mennonite market and a bunch of huge onions. My guess is that is was about 8 lbs. I sliced up the squash and onions and it looked like this: I sauteed them with a stick of butter. Now I hadContinue reading “Squash Casserole for the Freezer”

Canning tomatoes
I have to admit that by the time it was time to can tomatoes, I was pretty much over canning tomato products, but I had about 35 lbs of tomatoes that needed to be dealt with. I set up the blanching, coring, and cutting operation in the laundry room. I scrubbed my laundry sink soContinue reading “Canning tomatoes”
Roasted Garlic Marinara
Next up with my roma tomatoes was to make marinara sauce. I make mine a little differently. Here’s how I do it: I started by washing and quartering my roma tomatoes, and chopping up my onions. I sprayed two quarter sheet pans with cooking spray and added the tomatoes and onions and sprinkled some peeledContinue reading “Roasted Garlic Marinara”
Spicy Bloody Mary Mix
I went to the Mennonite market today and their canning and roma tomatoes were on sale–$15/box, and I might have gotten a little carried away, because I bought 3 boxes. That is a LOT of tomatoes. My plan is to make Bloody Mary mix, Roasted Garlic Marinara sauce, and to can a case of tomatoes.Continue reading “Spicy Bloody Mary Mix”
Zillions of Zinnias
I didn’t get a subscription bouquet this week because I used so many over the past few weeks for parties, house guests, and birthdays. I picked a lot of flowers last weekend for all the festivities, but the zinnias have come roaring back. I also had quite a few dahlias. The funny part about theContinue reading “Zillions of Zinnias”
White Lightening Chili Beans
We like white chicken or turkey chili as an occasional alternative to the traditional red/beef chili. Since our poblano harvest has been so abundant, I thought I would make some beans to go into white chili to make meal prep super easy. It is critical that you read the instructions for using your pressure cannerContinue reading “White Lightening Chili Beans”
Starting fall plants
We have had really good success with our fall garden and now is the time to start your seeds. I planted some carrot seeds in our empty tub that my husband finally drilled some holes in for drainage. There isn’t much to see so I am not including a photo. I will need to keepContinue reading “Starting fall plants”
Spicy Salsa (but not the dance)
We are getting buried alive with tomatoes and jalapenos, and what better way to use them up than to make a big batch of salsa. Remember to wear gloves and run your jalapenos under running water while you are removing the membrane and seeds. Even doing this I felt like I was being pepper sprayed.Continue reading “Spicy Salsa (but not the dance)”
New Batch of Fabric for Quilts
I finished all my little picnic blankets that I made out of the mens shirts that I got from the thrift store. I bought a new group of shirting fabrics from Mood Fabrics. They are really pretty. I have about 2/3 of the fabrics to the point of being strips of blocks. And my momContinue reading “New Batch of Fabric for Quilts”
Birthday Bash Bouquet
My husband’s cousins came into town to celebrate my MIL’s birthday. I requested a triple bouquet from my flower subscription and boy did she deliver. Ionly added some of my pink zinnias. There was enough for this giant bouquet and flowers for the table, as well as a gorgeous vase of sunflowers for our house.Continue reading “Birthday Bash Bouquet”
