We have had really good success with our fall garden and now is the time to start your seeds. I planted some carrot seeds in our empty tub that my husband finally drilled some holes in for drainage. There isn’t much to see so I am not including a photo. I will need to keepContinue reading “Starting fall plants”

Spicy Salsa (but not the dance)
We are getting buried alive with tomatoes and jalapenos, and what better way to use them up than to make a big batch of salsa. Remember to wear gloves and run your jalapenos under running water while you are removing the membrane and seeds. Even doing this I felt like I was being pepper sprayed.Continue reading “Spicy Salsa (but not the dance)”
New Batch of Fabric for Quilts
I finished all my little picnic blankets that I made out of the mens shirts that I got from the thrift store. I bought a new group of shirting fabrics from Mood Fabrics. They are really pretty. I have about 2/3 of the fabrics to the point of being strips of blocks. And my momContinue reading “New Batch of Fabric for Quilts”
Birthday Bash Bouquet
My husband’s cousins came into town to celebrate my MIL’s birthday. I requested a triple bouquet from my flower subscription and boy did she deliver. Ionly added some of my pink zinnias. There was enough for this giant bouquet and flowers for the table, as well as a gorgeous vase of sunflowers for our house.Continue reading “Birthday Bash Bouquet”
Lasagna with a Surprise Farm Fresh Filling
If you’ve been following along, you know that I have been to the farmers market and bought way too much produce. I grew some beautiful yellow squash, but also bought some more and I have LOADS of fresh tomatoes from my garden which made me think of this recipe. https://cathyathomeontheriver.com/2021/08/13/summer-squash-and-tomato-casserole/ Since I promised to makeContinue reading “Lasagna with a Surprise Farm Fresh Filling”
Dill Pickles
My pickling cucumbers are finally producing enough cucumbers to pickle. I usually gather them for about a week and then make pickles with them. To prep the cucumbers, scrub them to remove the bristles and remove the blossom end and discard. I recommend hand slicing them because when I have used a mandolin, they haveContinue reading “Dill Pickles”
Sweet and HOT pickled peppers
Similar to my poblanos, my jalapenos are producing like CRAZY and I had 60 of them in the fridge. I decided to make them into bread and butter jalapenos. I washed them and cut them in half lengthwised. I used the zesty bread and butter pickle mix from Mrs. Wages and followed the package instructionsContinue reading “Sweet and HOT pickled peppers”
Preserving Poblanos
For the first time EVER, my poblano peppers are producing really well. While there are still a bunch on the plants, I picked 17 and needed to get them in the freezer. Here’s what I did: I washed them and laid them on a baking sheet. I broiled them until they were charred on theContinue reading “Preserving Poblanos”
Statement Bouquet
I am growing dill this summer and the variety name is Mammoth, and they weren’t kidding. This stuff is almost as tall as I am. I paired this giant dill with some cheery bright sunflowers. I love the combination. It’s definitely been a summer of flowers!
Birthday Flowers times Two
My mother and my sister in law both are celebrating birthdays this weekend, so I went to Trader Joe’s to find some pretty flowers for them. For my mom, I went with peach Hypericum berries, vivid orange spray roses, silver eucalyptus, a type of greenery that I don’t know the name of, some gorgeous zinniasContinue reading “Birthday Flowers times Two”
