Pandemic Physical Fitness–Little Soddy Trail

We have had an unusually grey and cloudy few weeks, and have been getting a little stir crazy. So yesterday, we took a drive to Mowbray Mountain and hiked a part of the Little Soddy Trail. While it was on the cool side (about 43 degrees), the sun came out.

Apparently, there used to be some mining here and we saw bits of coal on the ground and signage that indicated the sites of mines (very small). I especially loved this trail because of all the rocky creeks and streams. We just had some rain, so the water was flowing everywhere. That said, there are a lot of stream crossings (most of them have stepping stones), so wear water proof hiking boots. Also, the trail is narrow, so it is not ideal for large groups. The parking area is a gravel lot (two cars can fit), and is just before Sluder Road. The trailhead is located along Hotwater Road about 100 yards from the parking area. Neither are well marked.

The hike did both Jackson and me a lot of good. I hope that you find a way to get outside and recharge.
