Mini Thrift Store Haul

My husband had to go out of town last weekend for work, so I went to Atlanta to see a friend. We both love to go thrifting. (She has the best luck ever. I can’t even tell you how many fabulous purses she’s found for nothing–including Coach and Yves St. Laurent.) She had a long day on Friday, so I hit a few stores that are kind of out of the way from her house. I didn’t have a huge amount of luck, but I did find these beauties:

All of these plates were only $2.09/each–Amazing! In both of these cases, there were only 7 pieces. I was able to find more of the chargers on ebay and I found one more salad plate on Replacements.com. I would encourage you to do the same thing if you find something pretty but it’s an incomplete set. If it’s not marked (like the chargers), use Google lens to figure out what it is. Google will also show you listings for what you have. By the way, the set of salad plates is actually a mixture of salad and dessert plates, but you wouldn’t notice that when they are set on a table. This pattern was discontinued in 1974, so I was surprised that I could find any. I love the look.

While I was out on Friday, I also found a bunch of mugs for a friend who is working on a project. If you need mugs, GO TO THE THRIFT STORE! I always find so many. But that also means you should think about 3 times before you buy anyone a mug. I also found a 12″ silverplate tray for $4. I have been collecting them to use as service plates/chargers since early this year, and now I have 7 and I would like to find at least 1 more. I only pay up to $5.

On Saturday, we hit some of our favorite stores.

I found this at a consignment store for $15. I texted a photo to our future DIL to see if she wanted to use it in the bathroom of my son’s house (she is an architect). She said yes, so this is a Christmas gift.
I found this tray at a thrift store for just this purpose. It is perfect with the other items in our hall bathroom. I love it.
I found all of these at various thrift stores. I paid between $.99 and $3.99 for them. I use white pitchers a lot for centerpieces.

We went to a nice consignment store and I found some things:

I found this Ralph Lauren tweed blazer that is perfect with a pair of pants I already had. I am going to wear this when we go out to dinner with our son, future DIL, and her parents. You can see a peek of the light Burberry jacket I found there too.
I found this J. Crew cotton crew neck light sweater, Athleta navy jacket (perfect for fall), and this fabulous scarf. They look great together.

I didn’t find these this weekend, but it was a great find. I found a whole bunch of All Clad utensils for $9.99/each at a consignment store. Truly, I don’t understand why you would sell these. You would never have to replace them because they are so well made. A friend of mine wants to upgrade her kitchen equipment, so she is going to keep these and get rid of/pass down to her kids what she has.

I don’t know if I shared this last holiday season, but I find most of the gifts for the family at the thrift store or used book store or consignment store or ebay. I find great books, trays, interesting serving pieces, etc. I have to shop all year, because you never know what you’ll find and sometimes you don’t find anything. I have found some really great things like this:

Our youngest son’s girlfriend loves Asian art. I found this at the thrift store. I sent them a photo before I bought it because it’s huge and more expensive and I wanted to make sure that they liked it before I bought it.

I found this at a consignment store:

I am not particularly a fan of Asian art, but I think that this is gorgeous. This is a forever piece that would look completely appropriate in an elegant living room. I checked with them before buying this as well. It’s 4 panels and it weighs a ton.

It’s so fun when the kids open the gifts because they truly have no idea what I have found for them. We also give them a check as their “real” gift. So we have the joy of watching them open gifts and still can give them a check which is what they really need.
